Sunday – Day 1: Develop A Positive And Productive Mindset

Your productivity is influenced by what you think, feel, and believe to be true. In a nutshell, your life is what your thoughts make it.

Thus, think and believe you are productive.  Have a positive attitude about your productivity.

For example, I repeat the following phrase to myself when I need a pep talk.

“I am productive because I always get the most important things done.”

Notice the emphasis on the word “important.”

Your productivity isn’t defined by activity or being “busy.” Productivity is defined as getting the most essential things done in your life.

Monday – Day 2: Start Setting Daily And Weekly Goals

Setting daily and weekly goals is a simple way to be more productive.

Goals of this type make a significant and immediate impact on your life. They form the foundation and provide direction for your daily activities.

Furthermore, look at your goals each day and ruthlessly rank your priorities. Focus on the most critical things first.

Finally, set deadlines for each daily and weekly goal. A clear timeline will increase your productivity as you strive to accomplish more.

Tuesday – Day 3: Be Decisive And Get Moving

Productive people avoid indecision. Indecision creates stress and wastes time and energy.

Look to your daily and weekly goals as a guide. When confronted with a choice, gather the facts and focus on the activity, not the outcome.

I don’t mean making snap, reckless decisions with your time because it always pays to gather the facts and consider the alternatives.

After deciding what to work on, get busy and complete the necessary tasks to make it a success. Do not procrastinate, and never look back and second-guess yourself.

Wednesday – Day 4: Build Momentum By Accomplishing One Thing To Start Your Day

Each morning, start the day by accomplishing something.

By completing a task first thing, you will set the tone for a productive day. Avoid starting your day with an ambiguous project with no apparent conclusion.

Later, move on to something more challenging or creative while your mind is fresh and the morning is still young.

Thursday – Day 5: Learn How And When To Say NO!

Guard your time, set boundaries, and learn when and how to say no.

Do not let your progress this week slip away by over-committing. Stay focused and finish the week strong.

We are trained at a young age to say yes.  When your Mom or Dad asks you to do something, you learn to say yes and do it.

When asked to take on more responsibility at work, the expected answer is “yes.”

But at some point, we can’t say yes to every request. Highly productive people are skilled at identifying when to say yes and when to say no.

This isn’t always easy. Most of us are wired to please others, so knowing when to say no takes willpower and good judgment.

Friday – Day 6: Focus On Working Smarter Not Harder

To boost your productivity, you must work smart. Value your time and never waste a minute, especially on Friday.

Working smart and being productive on Friday will set you up for a more peaceful weekend. Completing more on Friday will make returning to work on Monday less stressful.

But how do you work smart and become more efficient? Here’s what I do…

My daily “work smart” productivity formula boils down to asking myself two questions:

1) Am I working on the right things? and 2) Am I working on those things the right way?”

After addressing those two questions, complete anything left over from your daily and weekly goals.

Saturday – Day 7: Reflect And Recharge

Take time to reflect on Saturday. Think about what went well during the week and how you can extend that progress. Also, consider what you can improve to enhance your productivity next week.

If you keep a journal, pull it out and read through thoughts from the week. If you don’t have a journal, start one and reflect as you write.

Finally, take care of yourself. Sleep well, take breaks throughout the day, eat a nutritious diet, and exercise regularly. Mental and physical fatigue creates stress and are the enemies of productivity.
