New Season, New Goals To Try This Summer
Today, I will explore setting seasonal goals for summer.
Being intentional about your goals is a great way to have your best summer ever. It’s the perfect time to embrace personal growth, productivity, rest, and relaxation.
Whether learning new skills, fostering healthy habits, or exploring fresh ways to be creative, don’t let this summer pass you by. To help, here are some of my favorite goals to consider, set, and achieve. Let’s run through them one at a time.
Goals To Set And Achieve This Summer

1. Adopt An Outdoor Exercise Buddy
Summer is an excellent time of year to get out and walk, jog, bike, hike, or swim.
I recommend finding an exercise buddy to keep your motivation high. You can exercise with your partner or join a hiking or biking club.
Thus, surround yourself with like-minded people who want to get and stay fit.
2. Cut Down Screen Time
Take back control of your screen time by checking how much time you are wasting. Then, reduce your non-work time in front of the screen.
Replace unnecessary usage with other activities. Here are a few other tips to get out from behind your screen:
- Track your screen time
- Don’t eat in front of a screen
- Keep screens out of the bedroom
- Turn off notifications
- Leave your phone behind

3. Do A Good Deed For Someone
With so much “stuff” going on in the world, we could use a few more unprovoked random acts of kindness—at least, I think so.
Some say there is a “helper’s high,” and I believe it. Doing something nice for someone always makes me feel good. Furthermore, my mother used to say, “You get back twice as much as you give.”
Don’t overthink it, do it. Here are some ideas for simple good deeds:
- Hold the door for someone
- Bring in the neighbor’s trash can
- Leave a good tip for that excellent server
- Donate to a charity
- Be kind to the next person you encounter
4. Remove A Negative Person From Your Life
The last thing you need is negativity, such as someone saying you can’t achieve your goals this month, next month, or next year.
So, look around and take stock. Identify toxic people in your life. Then run away as fast as you can!

5. Turn A Weakness Into A Strength
Choose one thing you would like to improve about yourself. Then, during the summer, work on turning that weakness into a strength.
Some ideas for self-improvement include the following:
- Adopting a positive attitude
- Eliminating junk food
- Being more decisive
- Addressing procrastination
The list of things each of us can improve upon is virtually endless. So, please choose one of your weaknesses this summer and work to eliminate it.

6. Focus On One Of Your Hobbies
Have you let your interest in hobbies slip away? It’s easy to do with so much going on with work, school, and family.
Here are some hobby-related recommendations for your goals.
Cut back on your time spent on social media and television. Instead, put that time to good use in one of your hobbies.
If nothing else, do some work in your yard and garden. Make your outdoor space beautiful, then relax and enjoy it.
Or maybe you need to get back into your favorite hobbies from the past, such as:
- Photography
- Yoga
- Meditation
- Skateboarding
- Painting or drawing
- Doing volunteer work
- Reading for pleasure
The most important thing is choosing something you enjoy.
7. Relish Your Summer Vacation
Plan for and enjoy a summer vacation.
First, leave it all behind and make the most of your well-deserved holiday. Furthermore, consider the following tips to make your vacation go as smoothly as possible.
Get organized. The week before you leave, put a list together of everything you want to take with you.
For example, I have a vacation packing list saved on my computer. The list includes everything I might need. However, not every item applies to every trip, so I cross those off as I pull together the necessary things.
Don’t sweat the small stuff. Few vacations are perfect, so don’t let the inevitable inconveniences or little surprises get you down.
Roll with it. When the best-laid plans go astray, stay positive and adapt. Sometimes, the unexpected will lead to the best vacation experiences.
Open up and enjoy the moment. Be present and detach from work and home as best you can.
Finally, be grateful for what you have. Let your mind wander and reflect. When you return home, you may find new and different inspirations.

8. Disconnect From Work One Day A Week
Choose one day a week and COMPLETELY disconnect from your workplace.
You know what I mean. With 24/7 connectivity at the tips of our fingers, it’s easy to get sucked into work activities every day of the week, including the weekends.
9. Check On Your Finances
Mid-year is the perfect time to check in on your money situation. So, remember your personal financial goals—the ones you set at the beginning of the year to improve your wealth.
For example, your financial goals may have included:
- Reviewing your budget
- Knowing where you spend your money
- Saving for a small investment
If you aren’t careful, summer fun can dent your finances. So, don’t put your head in the sand at the beach. Instead, be realistic and objective about your finances. Most importantly, live within your means.

10. Be Kind To Yourself
Finally, remember to cut yourself slack this summer.
Why? Maybe you had a challenging start to the year. Perhaps not, I don’t know for sure.
Either way, make the summer a new beginning by setting and achieving worthwhile goals. But remember to take it easy on yourself. After all, it’s summertime!
